Bill to Require American-made Military Uniforms

Representatives Mike Michaud and Chellie Pingree introduced a bill to reverse the Department of Defense's (DOD) avoidance of the Berry Amendment, which requires DOD to purchase American-made military uniforms. For decades the military issued servicemembers American-made uniforms, including athletic footwear. Since 2002, DOD has skirted the law when it comes to footwear by issuing new recruits cash allowances for training shoes.

Criminal alien allegedly rapes, brutalizes 9-year-old in 'Sanctuary City'

An Ecuadorian criminal alien, who was released last year when Baltimore, Md., became a sanctuary city, was arrested by federal agents for the violent rape of a 9-year-old girl, according to a Judicial Watch report released on Monday. While the rape occurred in the city of Baltimore, the suspect, Henry Estrella-Cordova, was nabbed by officers from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) and not members of the Baltimore Police Department, said the public-interest group that investigates government corruption and abuse.

Representative Mike Michaud (Maine-02), Ranking Member of the House Veterans' Affairs Committee, expressed disappointment in the Department of Defense (DoD) announcement that it will put out to bid for a new system to manage its health records. Michaud and his Republican and Democratic colleagues on the committee sent a letter today to President Obama urging him to show leadership and end the bureaucratic back and forth on records, which has a direct impact on veterans' claims with the VA, and potentially their health.
