May 6, 2003 Dear Editor National Nurses’ Week is celebrated May 6th-12th The Northeast Health Care Quality Foundation (NHCQF) feels this is an opportune time to extend a well-deserved “Thank You!” to all nurses in the tri-state area of Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. In 2000 and again in 2003, federal studies published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) ranked New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively in the quality of care provided to Medicare patients! We know that nurses are integral to this achievement. The nursing profession’s role in providing the highest quality of care provided should be a source of great pride to these nurses and a reason for great appreciation by the public. As the federally-designated Medicare Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) for three states, we are proud to be part of the health care community which is ranked “Tops in the Nation” for care provided to Medicare patients. NHCQF is proud to be affiliated with the nurses we work with in the hospitals, nursing homes, home health agencies and physician offices. We wish each and every one of them continued success!
