Stearns High School 2003 Valedictorians

MILLINOCKET -- Stearns High School Principal, Paul MacDonald has announced the tri-valedictorians for the Class of 2003.

Aaron Doody

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Doody, Aaron has been a member of the National Honor Society for the past three years. He has also been a delegate to Dirigo Boys State, council treasurer in his freshman year, junior class secretary, and a member of the math team for four years. He was among 16 juniors in the state to attend the Keller-BLOOM Research Program, and was awarded the Maine Scholars’ Achievement Award and the Principal’s Award for his efforts in academics and citizenship.

Aaron has been active in athletics, running for the cross-country and track and field teams at Stearns. He was a four-year member of the ice hockey team, serving as captain in his senior year. He was selected as an Eastern Maine Class B Senior All-Star.

Aaron has been an active member of the performing arts, as lead alto for the jazz ensemble and concert bands for the past three years. He also performed in two musicals.

He plans to study engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

James Patrick Mahoney

The son of Mr. and Mrs. James Mahoney, James has been a member of the National Honor Society for three years. He attended Dirigo Boys State as a delegate, and participated in a summer engineering internship at the engineering department of the Great Northern Paper mill in Millinocket.

James has been a member of the math team for four years, leading the team in overall scoring in his senior year. He has served on the student council and prom committee, and participated in the Spanish club. He competed on the track team for four years, earning a varsity letter.

He has been a volunteer at a Red Cross blood drive, helped to build a ramp for a physically limited person, and regularly tutors math students.

James was honored with the Williams College Book Award, the Maine Scholars Achievement Award, as well as Outstanding Team Contribution in Track.

He plans to study civil engineering at Brown University.

Sarah Saucier

The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Saucier, Sarah has been a member of the National Honor Society for three years, and was selected as a member of Dirigo Girls State.

She has served on the student council, and as junior and senior class treasurer. She participated in athletics throughout her high school years, including field hockey, basketball, and track, receiving an Academic All-State award during her senior year of field hockey.

She has participated in the French club, math team, jazz band, and show choir, and has been involved in school musicals and dance classes.

She plans to study chemical engineering at the University of Maine.
