GNP Engineering & Research Building Vacated
MILLINOCKET -- Once the headquarters of the largest paper mill in the world, the Engineering & Research Building on the Millinocket mill campus will not be put in use by the new ownership.
Glenn Saucier, the manager of human resources for Katahdin Paper, announced last week that the company has moved the management offices for what was once Great Northern Paper Company to its facility in East Millinocket.
Vacant, the building may be used for other purposes. Saucier said that the company has been in contact with several possible leasors, including MAGIC, the Millinocket Area Growth and Investment Council, but that no final decision has been reached regarding the fate of the building.
Katahdin Paper’s corporate headquarters are now located in East Millinocket.
The lower gate leading to the E&R Building has been closed in order to reduce unnecessary vehicle traffic in the parking area. Saucier described this as a liability issue, and said that the mill’s upper gate would continue to remain open for access.
