Open Letter to the Good People of the Katahdin Region

I was once employed as a reporter for a newspaper in Millinocket. I was ousted from that job in an attempt to interfere with your right to get all the information on the issues that matter to you and your respective towns. Some might say that the "powers that be" perhaps even conspired to control the local newspaper, but when you see my vacant houses in the town, ask yourself who stands to gain the most by keeping me away. And I will also ask you to consider what the ramifications might be for the jobs of those who have broken Maine and Federal Law in order to silence someone who, like me, who had the ability to expose their corruption.

I am no longer able to do so in the pages of the local print newspaper, but thank God there is more than one way in which to expose the bad guys for their injustice. They may be succeeding in the short run, but I'm old enough to know that good always wins over evil in the long run, and that justice is always served in its own time, one way or another.

Stay tuned, and don't give up hope. This next election may be important for the corrupt organization known as the Millinocket Area Grouches and Infliction Corporation, but all is not lost, regardless of the results. Thank you to all those who know me as a friend. I'm most grateful for your help and your prayers during these trying times of corruption, and unfairness. The truth will be told, and my name will be vindicated.

If anyone would like to contact me, or send a question or a note of encouragement, please feel free to write me via email at jjnugent@gmail.com - If you'd like a call back or a visit, please include that information in your message.

Sincerely,

Joseph J. Nugent III

PS: When I wrote and submitted this to the new local paper, the Katahdin Press back in March of 2008, I had no confirmation that the owners of the mill would attempt to bifurcate the trade unions, and threaten to close your mill. Of course, the reason they are being wishy washy, rather than letting you know exactly what they intend to do, is because this is an election year. The above is more related than what might be obvious, but this column, and these articles will tie everything in together. Stay vigilant! And make plans to keep the pressure on the local representative, senatorial, and congressional representation because Northern Penobscot County and the Katahdin work force have more political clout than you might think. It is still representative of a large part of the Northern Maine economy. You have to keep the pressure on these politicians. Don't let them sell you down the river, like they've succeeded in doing so far with my civil rights.
