Missouri Congresswoman Supports Repeal of Washington D.C. Gun Ban

In her weekly 6 February 2008 newspaper letter to the folks back home, Missouri 8th District U. S. Congressional Representative Jo Ann Emerson announced her support for striking down the Washington D. C. ban on firearms ownership.

Representative Emerson adds her name to an amicus curiae brief containing the names of more than 100 members of Congress who ask the Supreme Court to strike down the D. C. gun ban.

The case in point is District of Columbia v. Heller, in which several D. C. residents allege that the D. C. gun ban prohibits having a firearm for self-defense within one's home, and is an unconstitutional violation of the Second Amendment. In Washington D. C. the criminals carry guns and law-abiding citizens remain legally unarmed.

Banning firearms historically precedes slaughter of a country's citizens by that country's own government. The Second Amendment does not exist so people can go hunting, it exists because the Founders knew that an armed citizenry is the last defense against brutal and oppressive government. The United Nations, desirous of ruling the world, strongly favors disarming everybody except itself.

Congressional gun-grabbers, mainly urban Democrats, are desirous of confiscating personal firearms and ammunition so as to permanently tip the balance of power toward Big Government and away from The People whom Big Government would like to oppress. Congressional gun-grabbers violate their Oath Of Office agreement ‘to support this Constitution' and remain in office illegally after writing, sponsoring, co-sponsoring, or voting to approve, any legislation that infringes on the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.

We need firearms education, not firearms confiscation. School children need to be taught proper use and safety of firearms so as to better live in a world where firearms exist.

This Supreme Court case will be a landmark decision. If the D. C. gun ban is struck down, similar restrictions on guns will end all across America. If the gun ban is allowed to stand, in violation of the Second Amendment, look for the First Amendment and other Constitutional rights to be abridged and, perhaps in another thirty years, the start of mass-murder of ‘undesirables' by the federal government as happened in Nazi Germany, Russia, Turkey and many other nations.

Write and call your Congressional Representative (and your U. S. Senators) and ask that person to add his/her name to the list of more than 100 members of Congress who have already signed the amicus curiae brief asking the Supreme Court to strike down the D. C. gun ban.
