Green Trash

The color green is a good choice for representing the 'Green Movement.'

Green is plant trash. Likewise, the 'Green Movement' misses its mark, focusing on the useless and worthless at the expense of what is important.

So why are green plants green? Why do plants throw away green light?

Green plants absorb sunlight, that is, white light made of all the visible colors. Red and blue light, mainly, are the energy that powers creation of sugar in the plant's chloroplasts.

Green light is mostly not useful for photosynthesis. The plant keeps and uses red and blue light and rejects, or reflects, green light.

Reflected green light, the part of the white light spectrum that the plant does not use, makes the plant look green. Reflected green light is analogous to the plant dumping its trash. The color of any object you see, like red in a red sweater, is light that the object did not keep and radiated back into its surroundings.

I remember the first Earth Day at St. Louis, Missouri. It was a big media event.

There were reporters and television crews interviewing Earth Day participants. The Earth Day participants reminded me of lost Hippies looking for employment in the next great Movement.

My instant reaction was disgust.

"Oh, no!" Anti-war fanatics and pot-heads were about to invade, corrupt and eventually destroy the useful and fully functional Conservation movement.

In the background were corporate sponsors, proclaiming their devotion to 'Earth' and 'Eco-Friendly' green living.

Lurking in the shadows were government agencies.

Big corporations joined the Green Movement to use environmentalism as a weapon to crush smaller competitors.

Government agencies eagerly participated as they sensed yet another, very fertile, wide-open venue for further eroding Constitutional restrictions on government action, for greatly expanding attacks on Private Property in the name of 'Save The xxxxx', and for advancing the bureaucratic dream of more more more money and more more more government power over citizens. Government interest is usually self-interest.

Green Land-Grab Organizations proliferated, using government money to condemn and buy privately owned land that was quickly re-sold, usually at a large profit, and usually to some government agency.

Predictably, and obvious from Day One, all of that actually happened.

We get eco-trash advertising from corporations that throw the word Green around like they used to trumpet the words New and Improved.

We get Un-Constitutional government restrictions and invasions of personal freedom and private property rights.

We spend billions of dollars 'saving' obscure creatures around the globe, creatures that mainly were doing okay by themselves, and a few creatures that were naturally at the end of their time and were going extinct anyway, no matter how many millions of taxpayer dollars were thrown at them. Almost all was, and is, money down rat holes.

Plants have sense enough to reject Green as useless light junk.

Will The People ever realize that the Green Movement also is useless and destructive, and deserves a place on history's junk heap?
