WASHINGTON, DC -- A number of communities across Maine have received planning grants aimed at bolstering economic development and creating jobs across the region. The Economic Development Administration awarded $70,000 to each of the following organizations:

  • Northern Maine Development Corporation, for projects in Caribou/Aroostook County
  • Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments, for projects in Auburn/Androscoggin County
  • Kennebec Valley Council of Governments, for projects in Fairfield/Somerset County
  • Eastern Maine Development Corporation, for projects in Bangor/Penobscot County

"This is excellent news for all of these communities," said Congressman Mike Michaud. "These grants will allow local and regional planning officials to continue important projects in their regions that are driving development, creating jobs and improving entire communities."

Specific questions concerning each of the grants can be directed to the respective organizations:

  • Northern Maine Development Corporation: Mike Eisensmith, 207-498-8736
  • Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments: Robert Thompson, 207-783-9186
  • Kennebec Valley Council of Governments: 207-453-4258
  • Eastern Maine Development Corporation: Michael Aube, 207-942-3548
