Help Put Pemaquid Point Lighthouse Over The Top

BRISTOL -- The JELD-WEN window and door company holds a lighthouse challenge each year. The lighthouse that wins the challenge gets new windows and doors installed courtesy of JELD-WEN. This year Pemaquid Point Lighthouse in Bristol, ME is one of the 12 finalists. Winning this challenge would certainly be a fitting tribute to the lighthouse on the 2003 quarter issued for the State of Maine. Currently Pemaquid is in sixth place and needs the help of everyone in Maine to help push it over the top.

In first place is Grand Traverse Lighthouse in Michigan. Michigan, the state with the most lighthouses in the US, has strong support for its lighthouses. Virtually every newspaper in the state has publicized the efforts to gain new windows and doors. But that doesn't mean Pemaquid doesn't have a chance. Let's show that Maine also supports its lighthouses.

Be sure to vote. Cast your ballot for Pemaquid by simply going to the JELD-WEN web site at www.jeld-wen.com/lighthouse . One ballot will be counted from each email address. Forward this information to all the people in your email address book and ask them to cast a vote as well. Voting ends September 7, 2008.

Pemaquid Point Lighthouse is open from 10:00 to 5:00 daily from Memorial Day to Columbus Day. Friends of Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, a local all-volunteer chapter of the American Lighthouse Foundation, manages the tower and keeps it open for visitors.

For more information please contact Marty Welt, FPPL president, via email at backlog@tidewater.net.
