$70,000 Economic Development Award for Southern Maine Planning and Development Commission

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congressman Mike Michaud announced that the Southern Maine Planning and Development Commission (SMPDC) will receive a $70,000 investment award from the Economic Development Administration. The funding will be used to implement a comprehensive economic development strategy for a region stretching from York County to southern Oxford County.

"This EDA award will allow SMPDC to continue the important work of strengthening local economies and supporting small communities," said Michaud. "Public-private partnerships are central to economic revitalization, and this award aides the development of an economic roadmap that benefits the entire region. Coordinated efforts like these will ensure continued economic development throughout the state."

$220,000 in Grants to Denmark and Sullivan Fire Departments

WASHINGTON, DC -- Congressman Mike Michaud announced that the Denmark Volunteer Fire Department and the Sullivan Volunteer Fire Association will be awarded nearly $220,000 in operations and safety grants through FEMA's Assistance to Firefighters Grant program. FEMA will allocate $157,510 to Denmark and $61,560 to Sullivan to fund new equipment at each department.

"This crucial funding will be used to arm our first responders with the newest and most effective equipment available," said Michaud. "We can't ask our firefighters to save lives and protect our communities without our full support. I'm pleased that FEMA will ensure that the departments at Denmark and Sullivan have the resources and tools they need."

Denmark's funding will go toward a new mini pumper fire truck, a compact fire engine that is best equipped to respond to smaller emergencies. In Sullivan, FEMA's grant will be used to purchase 12 new breathing apparatuses for firefighters.
