WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has announced a $25 million investment that will fund the railroad infrastructure for the Sarah Mildred Long Bridge replacement project, connecting Kittery with New Hampshire. Earlier this year, Michaud joined Rep. Chellie Pingree in writing to DOT Secretary Anthony Foxx in support of the grant. Last year, Michaud invited Foxx to visit the bridge so he could get a first-hand understanding of its importance to the region.

"This federal funding will allow for the badly needed replacement of the Sarah Long Bridge, which is critical not just to the region's economy, but to our national security," said Michaud. "The bridge is a central supply line in and out of Portsmouth Navy Yard -- and we can't afford shoddy infrastructure there. I'm glad the Department of Transportation has responded to the advocacy and information that myself, Rep. Pingree, and others have shared; and that we can begin moving forward with this critical project."
