BREWER/WATERVILLE -- The Maine Games State Powerlifting Championships are being held this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, March 24-25, at the Brewer Auditorium. This is the third year for this event which always provides strong competition for lifters of all ages. Over 65 athletes have registered for this event so far, and registrations will be accepted at the event. Saturday’s event is an unsanctioned meet, where athletes will compete in a clean meet. Random drug-testing will be conducted following the competition. Sunday’s meet is sanctioned by the USA Powerlifting, and is also be a clean meet. All lifters on Sunday must be members of USAPL. Memberships can be purchased at the event. The Maine Games State Powerlifting Championships being run by commissioner Louie Morrison, of Bangor. This is the first year for basketball in Maine Games. The Maine Games State 9th and 10th Grade (2006-2007 school year) Basketball Championships are being held on Sunday, June 24, at the Alfond Youth Center, in Waterville. The tournaments are a part of the Maine Games sports festival in Waterville June 22-24. Registrations for these tournaments begins April 1 and will close as soon as the six-team tournaments are filled. To register a team for the boys or girls tournament go to www.mainegames.org and download the registration form and mail it with the registration fee of $225 to the Maine Games. The registrations are being taken on a first come, first served basis. All tournaments will close when filled and without further notice. The Maine Games 9th and 10th Grade Boys and Girls State Basketball Championships being run by commissioner Sean Casey, of Orono. Volunteer officials for these tournaments are needed.
