Maine Games Opens Registration for Several Events

SACO -- The Maine Games has opened registrations for several 2007 events. With more than 15 different events scheduled, 2007 will be the biggest Maine Games ever held.

Powerlifting registrations are now being accepted for the March 24-25 state championships, set for Brewer Auditorium. This event is open to all Maine athletes 12 years and older. The two-day event will feature Sub-Open weight/age divisions on Saturday, for male and female athletes, and an Open competition for Sunday. The Black Bear Inn, in Orono is the host hotel for this event and all athletes needing local accommodations are asked to reserve their rooms early. Entry fees for this event varies and increases on March 1 and again on March 10. This is a clean event and random drug-testing will be performed following competition on both days.

The Maine Games National Anthem Auditions are set for March 17, in Waterville. The top pick from this event will be invited to perform the Star Spangled Banner at the Maine Games Opening Ceremonies presented by Are You Ready to Party??, on June 22 at Colby College. Applications must be submitted before March 1 and are available on the Maine Games website.

The Maine Games is offering figure skating for the second time, with competition being held on Saturday, April 14, at the Rinks at Exeter, in Exeter, New Hampshire. This event is exclusive Maine qualifying competition for the 2007 State Games of America. Check the Maine Games website for details and registration information. Medalists will qualify to compete at the SGA in Colorado Springs, Colorado, August 2-5.

The Maine Games State Baton Twirling Championships will be held on Saturday, May 12, at the Alfond Youth Center, in Waterville. Baton twirlers from all over the state are invited to compete in this event regardless of any national organization affiliation. This is the fifth anniversary for this event and more than 400 registrations are expected this year. The Waterville Holiday Inn is the host hotel for this event and participants needing overnight accommodations are asked to reserve their rooms early.

Registrations for the Maine Games/Pine Tree Triathlon scheduled for the Brewer/Orrington area on July 29, are being accepted now and materials or online registration can be found at: www.pinetreetri.com. The Black Bear Inn in Orono will serve as the Maine Games host for this event. The Maine Games/Pine Tree Triathlon is the exclusive Maine qualifying triathlon for the 2009 State Games of America. All medalists in this event will qualify to compete at the SGA during the first weekend of August. This event is also the exclusive Maine qualifier for the 2007 Best of the US Triathlon Championships, scheduled for Cyprus Gardens, Florida, in October. The top Male and Female finisher in this event will qualify for this national championship.

All other Maine Games event registrations, including events scheduled for the June 22-24 multi-event sports festival will begin April 1.
