Maine AAU News: Basketball & Baseball

SACO -- The dates for the State of Maine AAU Basketball Tournaments have been set, and there is an informational meeting for anyone interested in being involved with AAU Baseball.

The dates for the State of Maine AAU Basketball Tournaments are as follows:

Girl's State Tournament will take place on April 8-9 and April 15-16, 2006.
Boy's State Tournament will take place on April 29-30 and May 6-7, 2006.

New this year, there will be an End of Winter League starting on February 19th and running through March 19th, with two games every Sunday for school and AAU teams.

The AAU Annual Meeting will take place on Sunday, January 29th at the Howard Sports Dome in Topsham, Maine. The Girl's meeting will take place at 11:00 a.m. and the Men's meeting will be at 12:30 p.m. For directions, go to www.howardsports.com and click on the Topsham site.

There will be an open tryout for any player (boy or girl) looking to play on a team at Howard Sports in Saco on February 12th, from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Coaches are invited to attend to look at potential players. Any athlete wishing to play, but unable to find a team, can also contact Maine Hoops or register their name through the clearinghouse at www.maineaaubasketball.com, where there will be lists of players seeking teams as well as coaches looking for players.

AAU Basketball and Maine Hoops is a State recognized non-profit youth organization.

An informational meeting for anyone interested in learning more about opportunities with AAU Baseball is scheduled for January 29th at the Howard Sports Dome in Topsham, Maine. The meeting will be at 3:00 p.m. For directions to the Sports Dome, go to www.howardsports.com and click on the Topsham site. This information is intended to inform both teams and individuals of the numerous opportunities available throughout New England in regards to AAU Baseball, including participation at National Level events. There will also be an AAU Baseball Clinic featuring Deering Varsity Baseball Coach and former professional player, Micheal D'Andrea during the week of February 20th, which is school vacation. Coach D'Andrea has coached several scholarship players at Deering, he is a coach of the USA Amateur Baseball team, and has coached teams to five Class A State Championships and an American Legion World Series championship.
