SACO -- The Maine Games has announced that Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield has re-signed as a bronze medal-level sponsor for 2007. The Maine Games is celebrating it’s fifth anniversary this year, and Anthem has been a sponsor of the annual sports festival since the inaugural year in 2003.

The Maine Games provides amateur athletes of all ages and abilities the opportunity to participate on a statewide stage, share in sportsmanship and camaraderie, and to help Mainers develop good health and fitness habits. Thousands of Mainers are expected to compete in Maine Games events in 2007.

"We are thrilled to have Anthem return as sponsor," said Maine Games Executive Director, Jeff Scully. "Anthem has been a strong supporter of our mission since we began, and we are proud to have them be a part of our state’s own Olympic-style sports festival."

"Exercise is important throughout our lives in order to maintain good health," said Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield President Erin Hoeflinger. "We believe in the importance of physical fitness and hope that the Maine Games grows in popularity for all age groups."

The Maine Games are offering as many as 20 different events in 2007, including powerlifting, wrestling, track and field, swimming, field hockey, golf, table tennis, tennis, and much more. Many events will be held in Waterville during the weekend of June 22-24, with an Opening Ceremonies being held at Colby College, in Friday, June 22.
