Western Society's Well Spring of Cognitive Dissonance and Reaction Formation.

Recent world events relating to terrorism, have sent many people into a spin with many demanding troop withdrawals from Iraq. After all, so they claim, if it were not for the invasion of Iraq, none of this would have happened. The recent attacks on women voters in Afghanistan, and the threatened execution of Turkish workers in Iraq (although they have now been released), have however demonstrated that these extremists are interested in far more than just punishing the 'evil infidels'. Their lust is for power and power absolutely. This is why so many members of the new Iraqi government have been killed.

A lot has been said in this whole debate about the Twin Towers attack, and few of those opposed to western troops in Iraq seem to remember that Saddam Hussein attacked Kuwait, and that Western help was requested, and that the Western forces remained behind in Muslim countries to ensure not only their security, but to enforce the 'no fly zones' in Iraq.

So what is the real issue for all those who are opposed to the war?

In the west, if someone refers to the Chairperson of a meeting as 'Chairman', all hell breaks loose. When the Australian government suggested that more women stay at home and have kids, accusation after accusation was made of sexism. But where are these same people when it comes to how the women in Muslim dictatorships are treated. {Refer to: Feminism, Ethnic Culture and Pakistani Girls at http://www.kingscalendar.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi?action=viewnews&id=125}

In the Australian press recently there was a story about a policeman who shot a fleeing criminal who ram raided a business premises. The 'victim' told how he was 'afraid for his life' when the policeman pointed his gun, and how agitated and menacing the policeman acted. In effect that story condemned the policeman. Perhaps this explains why the anti war protesters don't protest about 'human rights' abuses in dictatorial countries. Perhaps they see the 'powers that be' as criminals and therefore 'innocent' of their crimes.

If a homosexual is 'discriminated against' in employment, such as not being hired by a religious school, all the 'isms' come out in force to complain about 'human rights', but have they ever protested against the Chinese government for beating, imprisoning, raping and classifying as insane, homosexuals in China?

Why are so many people that are so interested in human rights so quiet about these issues that are so prevalent in dictatorial states? The bottom line seems to be, that for all their concerns for human dignity, human rights, equality, non discrimination, and women's rights, they are really only concerned for themselves. (I do not here include members of organisations such as 'Amnesty')

It makes you wonder about the real reason that so many of them are so persistent in maintaining that 'our troops' come home. Is it really about the 'rights and wrongs' of the war? Or is it about that nice little niche they have carved out for themselves in our liberal sycophantic universe suddenly being under threat of potential destruction. Sycophantic? Yes! Sycophantic! A word that implies that people can't think for themselves and have no regard for the truth. Political correctness has many sycophants, who would rather hide their true feelings in order to let the world know that they are truly righteous people. Like those who 'violently' attacked the supporters of Pauline Hanson in Australia, on the premise that her views promoted violence.

Such people who maintained that they were protecting democracy and supporting 'non discrimination' did everything of which they accused her and those who attended her political rallies. They were, I believe, suffering from a psychological condition called 'Reaction Formation'. [The blocking of desire by its opposite. "Reaction-formation" is the term Freud uses to describe the mechanism whereby the ego reacts to the impulses of the id by creating an antithetical formation that blocks repressed cathexes. For example, someone who feels homosexual desire might repress that desire by turning it into hatred for all homosexuals. http://tinyurl.com/3kqi]

Driven by one impulse to be 'politically correct' and to receive all the consequent accolades, they loathed the fact that they themselves were racist, and so turned their hatred on Ms Hanson.

Political correctness also produces other reactions, for instance, Cognitive Dissonance; 'a psychological phenomenon which refers to the discomfort felt at a discrepancy between what you already know or believe, and new information or interpretation.  http://tinyurl.com/kqy1

According to GERALD M.STEINBERG {Detached From Reality - Jerusalem Post, June 13, 2004} in a piece about cognitive dissonance, he states that 'when presented with evidence contrary to our beliefs even academics will try to rationalize disturbing data to reinforce their existing worldview'.

As an example of what may well be Cognitive Dissonance, in an article published in the Brisbane Newspaper, the Courier Mail on June 27th 2004, (Aussies must stay to fight 'butchers') Deputy Prime Minister John Anderson, in reference to an attack on an Australian aircraft in Iraq, said "I think you've got to say you can't give in, you can't give in to these sorts of butchers, morally and mentally deranged butchers".

What makes him call them morally and mentally deranged butchers? I believe his statement derives partly from cognitive dissonance and partly from political correctness in that he doesn't want to be seen as either racist, or discriminatory toward Islam.

Before discussing the matter further, I would like to present to you my published comments (addressed to Mr. Anderson) in the Courier Mail online feedback forum.

Dear Minister Anderson what planet do you live on? I live in China, amongst wonderfully proud and happy people. They are educated, they are modern, they are 'with it' technologically and as capitalistic and western as you or I. But they believe most firmly, that if the people of Taiwan do not come back to China, that they should be killed. They should be bombed!  They should be invaded!  They deserve to die! And it will be their own fault!

The Chinese are no different to the fighters in Iraq. These Iraqis and others are fighting for what they believe in. The right to rule everyone within their jurisdiction, and to do so with brutal force if necessary.

They are not mentally deranged and nor are they butchers. They are patriots.

It's about time that puerile, politically correct, non discriminating (like hell), humanitarian, western ideologues woke up and realised that we are the minority in the world. The first rule of war is 'know your enemy'.

We may think that western thinking is the 'right thinking', but we have only ourselves to justify it. We were the brutal morally and mentally deranged butchers of years gone by but have lost contact with that reality.

Our enemies may be 'behind the time', their thinking may be 'archaic' and destabilizing in the 21st century world, but they are not 'mental', and it is time for all westerners aiding and abetting these people in their PR wars, to desist, face reality, realise that 'our' civilised society is under threat of extinction, and get out there and do what they can to 'WIN'...

It is my personal belief, that we in the west have so bound ourselves up in all the 'isms' that it is not possible to speak the truth any more. Mr. Anderson could have said that the Iraqi and other Arab terrorists were uncivilised or ignorant, he could have said that they were unjustified or barbarous, but had he done so, he would have copped flak for being discriminatory or racist, or worse still, unjustified given the recent allied abuses of Iraqi prisoners.

Instead, he chose to use terms that most westerners could relate to without any 'politically correct' knee jerk reaction. You see we in the west, whether we admit it or not, think of ourselves as superior, but being wonderfully decent chaps, we cannot allow ourselves to say so, for that would ruin the perception we have of ourselves as 'perfectly civilized and egalitarian'.

We can't admit to anti-semitism, so we accuse the Israelis of 'Stealing' Arab land and being racists and terrorists, while at the same time finding ways to justify the indoctrination of young Palestinian children into becoming 'martyrs'. Our anti Semitism is hidden within political arguments.

So afraid are we of not being perceived as 'righteous' that we crucify those amongst us who are not; and to further assuage our guilt we find ways of 'excusing' the terrorists.  And then when the brutality becomes so personal and intense that we can no longer excuse it, we must find 'sanitary' and acceptable means of expressing our disgust.

We can't say "Those heathen Arabs", or "those religious fanatics" or "those blood thirsty bastards" because 'WE' don't lower ourselves to speak at such levels. We remain calm, and polite lest someone accuse us of being 'less than'.

The truth is I fear, that we have so self righteously raised ourselves so far above the real world, that we don't understand those peasants down there. But the truth is, that those peasants are often well educated and have abundant financial resources. They KNOW what they are doing. They have a purpose. They are protecting their power base, just like the feminazis who go on the rampage when they don't like something that someone says.

These morally and mentally deranged butchers, have blended their 'religion, culture and customs' with modernity, technology, and advertising strategies to manipulate 'western' complacency, degeneracy and IDOLATRY. We are only 'superior' because of our wealth, military power and technology. Other than that we are the ones who are morally bankrupt, mentally weak, and butchers, for we have no qualms about getting rid of all those who threaten our way of life.  I don't believe for a minute that within their culture (remember now that you support multiculturalism), that what these 'insurgents' are doing is morally wrong, deranged, unjustified or therefore 'butcherous'.

It's time that we recognised exactly what is going on in the world - a battle between ideologies. Not Christian/Muslim - Muslim/Jewish, but cultural/political ideology, and as one who lives in China and listens to what students spout every day, the day is not too far off when the western world will be facing the same threat from the Chinese, unless of course by then Western civilization will have been replaced by an Islamic one.
