As has already been reported from Baotou Inner Mongolia, regarding the new EET English training school in Baotou operated by Taiwanese businessman Mr. David Gao (Gao Jiawei), the Shanghai Franchiser of the EET brand of English language schools in China, and Doctor Sabrina Cui/Chui (Cui Lirong), a Han Chinese Baotou Inner Mongolia Native who holds Canadian Citizenship; they and their schools are facing many problems.
One of the many problems to come to light is the assertion that their employment procedures are racist. The following is a quotation from a letter that an Australian Staff Member of EET Baotou sent to Mr. David Gao of Shanghai EET.
- I was asked to teach students because as at that time, no other foreigners had arrived. Today 3 months later, still no other foreigner has arrived, and this, despite my introducing one teacher to the school who was rejected on the basis of his skin colour, and despite personally interviewing another teacher (at Doctor Cui Lirong's request) who was also rejected because she was not a 'white native speaker of English'; and this despite the fact that being a Philippina, she had completed her entire education in the English language.
It has been reliably reported that the principals of the EET Baotou School maintain that whilst EET (China) is an equal opportunity employer, employing a number of 'non white' English speaking foreign teachers, that their decision not to employ 'non white' staff in EET Baotou was based in the expressed attitudes and sentiments of the people of Baotou.
