Political Correctness: 21st Century Religion

If you have ever read anything of my social commentaries over the past 5 years, you could not help but notice that I totally despise 'Political Correctness Activism'.  Such a stance may not make me any friends, but frankly speaking, a lack of friends is preferable to exposure to a group of people who think that 'bodily effluent' smells better when it isn't called 'sh*t'.

The issues at the heart of 'Political Correctness Activism' are never truly social; they are 'political'. In a recent article at Magic City entitled: Dying Newspapers Dying Nation Repent or Perish, the comment was made that:

  • The real problem with the American print media is with the truth. Many of them have sacrificed the truth at the altar of politics and engaged in unethical behavior to conceal the truth, while propagating lies.

It is my personal belief that 'Political Correctness Activism' like all 'political activism', is not about 'truth and justice', but the empowerment of the political heart of the movement. As I wrote recently in an article entitled:  Battling Political Correctness: Dissenting Loss of Truth

  • We must begin to realise that every source of information has it's own agenda, and that the information provided is designed to stir up our support for that cause.
  • It never ceases to amaze me that those who have a "Just Cause" to fight, have no hesitation resorting to 'Unjust' - 'Dishonest' behaviour.
  • There can never be any excuse for such, but our willingness to ignore the truth is often the result of our own prejudice - 'prejudice whipped up for us by someone's Media propaganda Unit.'

We today have become so 'sensitive' - so 'politically correct' in our use of language and in our thinking, that many have never taken the time out to examine, so as to understand, why it is that they cannot simply just speak out in an honest way, the truth that they feel in their hearts.  Of course, that would inherently require a person to have the ability to be 'self aware' in a holistic psychological sense.

Once we begin to 'surrender' to what an external force, value, or idea requires of us; once we blindly (by Faith) follow a religion, God, the Bible, the Government, or our friends, allowing them to determine what we should believe in or adhere to, then we subsconsciously yet willingly, exchange our inherent values; 'the principles upon which we have always prided ourselves', for imported and perhaps exotic ones which like certain types of imported exotic flora and fauna, end up becoming noxious pests that destroy the beauty of our natural landscape.

To put it into common language: Are you a leader or follower? Are you a shepherd or a sheep? Can you think for yourself or do you need someone else to tell you what to think? Do you make decisions based on rationality or peer pressure?

When a person ceases to control their own thoughts, beliefs and actions, they become nothing but slaves to whomever it is that is controlling their thoughts and actions!

I can just hear the howling at the moon over those statements. What utter rubbish it is to suggest that being politically correct means that you have surrended your reason and rationality.

But I ask you: 'Are you sure about that?'

Political Correctness: mental disorder, childish fad or advance of human civilization? [January 2008, Release 1.0]

In everything they do, PC Zealots are convinced to be 'right', even if their attitude is not shared by a majority of others.

"The Politically Correct are self-righteous in a quasi-religious spirit. A sort of vanguard of enlightenment, they do not accept the judgment of voters (unenlightened) or consumers (selfish) and are prepared to impose reforms against the public will" [Coleman, Perer 2000 What is  Political Correctness? The Pros and Cons. Quadrant March 1.]

Instead, they claim to "be right" in an absolute sense, irrespective of specific historical periods or other human cultures.

This lack of a relativizing historical perspective is vividly manifested in the endeavor of feminists to accomplish a new translation of the bible in "just language" - thus invalidating all prior translations as flawed products of unenlightened patriarchal stages [Leicht, Robert 2006 Verschleierte Flucht In: DIE ZEIT online 21.12]

Are you sure you have not switched allegiences from one historical religion to another "new age" one?

'Political Correctness' like so many well meant social experiments, has fallen prey to the law of unintended consequences, and one place that this is made evident, is in Israel. In a recent article, Sarah Honig suggests that 'political correctness' has so altered the mindset of Israelis that they are no longer the brave and fearless warriors that they were 30 years ago.

  • We once mocked terrorist bluster. Today we listen to Nasrallah or Mashaal with trepidation and seek ways to appease them. They know our mind-set has mutated. They know yesteryear's Israelis expected daring commando responses to terrorist outrages, yet today we hesitate to venture out-of-the-box lest we incur wrath abroad. They know that our fallen, once regarded as heroes, are today counted as victims of avoidable slipups. They are aware of the numbing risk-aversion of our politicians, who fear media carping and commissions of inquiry more than genocidal foes. Above all, our enemies know that they managed to get politically-correct Jews to perceive themselves via the lenses of Arab propaganda.
  • 'Afraid of Victory' Sarah Honig March 20, 2009

I think that the point she is making when she talks about fear of 'bad press' or 'international condemnation', is that Political Correctness is ultimately about 'self-righteousness'.  It is a religious doctrine of 'Salvation'.

Only those who are politically correct will be saved.  Only those who are politically correct can be forgiven. Only those who are politically correct are sinless. Only those who are politically correct will receive the Father's / Mother's blessing. Only those who are politically correct will receive their heavenly rewards.

The last thing anyone wants to do is be politically incorrect and be damned to hell!

Let me ask you this: 'Do you believe in the Lord PC?' 'Will you bow your knees and confess with your tongue that PC is Lord?' 'Will you surrender your life and your will; your desires and your dreams to the Lord PC?' 'All Praise to PC!'

Political Correctness will ultimately affect the world just as it is effecting the Israelis. And just like the situation with Israel, it won't matter how physically strong we are, what will ultimately matter is how mentally strong our enemies are.  Ultimately while we might truly believe by faith that PC is Lord, and while we by faith might be willing to surrender up our lives as martyrs unto the Lord PC, there will be many deceivers amongst us who are just waiting for the right moment to strike us down.

That moment will come when we are no longer capable of thinking for ourselves.  That moment will come when we are so in awe of the Ministers of PC, that we, without a word to anyone, will allow them to physically and sexually abuse us; and afterward feel that we deserved it.

That day will come when we believe in our hearts that holding to the PC faith despite all the evidence of corruption to the contrary, is it's own reward; and that PC's kingdom is not of this world, but of the world to come!.

You don't have to be Christian to turn the other cheek, or to be a Jew / Muslim not to eat Pork.  Nor do you have to be a Political Correctness Activist / Idealist to be sensitive and understanding of others when you speak.  But when PC becomes Lord of your life; when friendships are determined by a person's acknowledgement of and conversion to the faith, then you really are a sick puppy!
