Recently, back in my hometown Brisbane in Australia, a young man died after being attacked at a party. The politicians and media are all over the situation, wondering how best to prevent this type of behaviour.
In his article entitled "Taskforce to tackle bashings" Edmund Burke of the Sundaymail Newspaper, (Queensland Australia October 1st) quotes the dead boy's father: "The culture we have now for children is wrong and we have got to change it somehow".
Methods of change of course will be decided upon by representatives from the departments of Premier and Cabinet, Police, Communities, Health, Justice, Education, and Multiculturalism, and parents' and citizens' associations.
I'm sure that they will determine that more money is required, new buildings must be built, and more programs be instituted to help the poor little darlings along.
What we have in the west is the result of listening to idiotic intellectual elites who having demonstrated that Biblical Morality is oppression, have been rather successful in their mission to enlighten us as how best to raise children. So today, what we have in place in our societies, is what was considered best for us, and I'm sure that the defensive will say that there is nothing wrong with current society or the young people. If that is a justification for not changing current norms, then one must wonder why it was thought necessary to remove previous norms such as respect for parents and authority, by encouraging children to leave home, sue parents, sue police, denigrate the government and turn to sectarian interest groups for help rather than to family.
Since first publishing stories about China here at Magic City, many people have written me emails, and nearly all of them have been PC related complaints about what I write. So today, as I considered what is going on in my hometown, I put pen to paper, and once again, relate my observations of Life in China.
I've been in China 4 years now. Two of those years were spent in a little town and two of them in a capital city. In 4 years I've seen 3 cat fights between women in the market place, 2 fights between boys at high school, and a few confrontations between men in the street (not punch ups). I know crime exists and I know there are different types of criminals in China. What I have never seen or had reason to suspect, is that there are gangs (formal or informal) of youths running around being obnoxious and causing mayhem and murder.
Maybe one could speak PC crap and talk about Political coercion here in China and how the Chinese live in fear, but few if any people who have lived here would agree with such BS.
Young people in China are generally "lovely" (a Chinese expression for Nice). Young people are less 'socially mature' than their western counterparts. They are often very naieve but have a real sense of 'love' for their friends. While they might not always do exactly what their parents tell them to do, most would never dream of being a disappointment to them.
In Short, the young people of China are the product of strong societal discipline and a concept of filial duty. Love of country, love of self and family, respect for all authority, especially respect for parents, and a sense of honour, are all ingrained in the psyche of Chinese Youth. If you want to know the causes of murder, death and mayhem among young people in Australia, these topics might be a good place to start your search.
As for the BS artists who might want to argue against these old fashion concepts and blame Government and funding for all the ills of society, kindly remember that I live in China, a country with a massive population, most of whom are poor, living if lucky in unfinished cement and brick houses with no bathroom, heating or running water; suffering a high unemployment rate ; earning predominantly low wages and living with an overall lack of infrastructure related to hygiene, government services, social services, counselling centers, or government retraining programs; where the poor don't just beg in the street, they come knocking on your door.
As long as the Chinese hang on to their traditional values, they will remain a fairly decent society. Once they convert to western models of social behaviour, God help them!
Every country has problems, and every generations has its' own peculiar problems to deal with, but love, honor, respect and duty should always remain a constant in any society.
One need not love everyone, but one's love of self (self image), combined with a sense of honor (self image), combined with respect for others (self image / self respect) and duty (self respect), are enough in any generation to produce decent people.
The Chinese are pretty decent. So what is wrong with the west?

Question: In what ways is China similar to the West?
At the end of the article at kingscalendar entitled "A World of Lies, Cowpats and Double Speak," I put my readers to the test.
