"Merry Christmas" is making a come back

"Merry Christmas" is making a come back and about time too! A report in the Daily Telegraph informs readers that:

  • COUNCILS have turned their backs on political correctness, reinstating the "Merry Christmas" greeting to its rightful place

Councillors believe the politically correct banners reflected "a secular view of Christmas" instead of the "traditional Australian view of Christmas".

"Our community is fed up with this erosion of the true meaning and essence of Christmas through this ridiculous pre-emptive surrender of the real Christmas on the basis it may offend someone," councillor Michael McDermott said.

"All we do is offend the great majority of our residents by this politically correct nonsense and watering down of the historically accurate view of Christmas.

I am not Chinese but I live in China. I use Chinese vernacular to greet people and where possible follow Chinese customs. They love it when a foreigner shows such respect. But wouldn't the politically correct thing be for them to change their culture to suit me?

A knew an American Catholic who lived in Israel for 5 years. What would have happened if he had insisted that the Israelis change their customs so as not to offend him?

As for Christmas, it drives me crazy having all these Chinese Wishing Me a Merry Christmas. I wish they could forget the whole thing. But why should I deprive these non-christians of their Christmas spirit.

Now that the ball has started rolling, maybe we can take traditional culture out of mothballs and put it on the mantle piece again!

I recently received an old joke about the Office Christmas party and debated whether or not to post it. I think I will. Go take a look!

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!
