Is Israel a Pariah State?

In a recent report from entitled: "Globe and Mail Reporter Engages in Anti-Israel Advocacy Journalism", Executive Director Mike Fegelman accuses Globe and Mail's Mideast bureau chief, Patrick Martin of violating the most basic precepts of neutral and objective reporting.

In reply to Mr. Martin's article: "Israel Shedding Allies as Government Goes 'From Bad to Worse', in which it is claimed that Israel's list of "friends is quickly becoming a lot shorter than that of its former friends", Mr. Fegelman, in addition to other things, rebutts Mr. Martins's claims by listing examples of Israel's current involvement in the worldwide community.

The following is just one part of the full report.

Contrary to Martin's claims that Israel is losing a popularity contest, consider the following recent international agreements and meetings which show that Israel isn't a loner on the international stage:

CNN and YNet News documented the warming of ties between Israel and Greece

Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon visited China and the U.S. to improve ties and strategic dialogue between both countries

Israel signed a $400 million contract to sell unmanned surveillance drones to Russia

Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman met German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle in Berlin and announced his decision to open a consulate in Munich next year

Israel and Panama agreed to develop and promote bilateral trade relations as well as various forms of commercial and economic cooperation

And on the domestic Canadian front:

Manitoba has strengthened its ties with Israel. As reported in the Winnipeg Free Press yesterday: (Manitoba) Premier Selinger appointed Winnipeg businessman and philanthropist Mel Lazareck as "special representative for Manitoba to Israel" to advise on various economic and community projects in Israel

Canada announced exploratory talks to expand the Canada-Israel Free Trade Agreement

Canada and Israel agreed to cooperate on public safety

With respect to international commerce, Canadian French newspaper La Presse recently described Israel as a business role model for the world. The Quebec newspaper profiled Israel's economy in a special feature report highlighting the Jewish State's dynamic entrepreneurship and world-class business leadership.

As to the arts community, the following musicians have either performed recently or who will be giving concerts in Israel in the future: Elton John, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Metalica, Guns n Roses, and Canadian artists Leonard Cohen & Justin Bieber.

Why Martin didn't consider these readily available facts is quite troubling. Is it perhaps because they didn't support his overarching thesis? [Emphasis added.]

I have observed and written before, that we live in a world that wants predigested news. We are constantly at the mercy of Media pushing their own agendas.

We tend to think that the expression 'Buyer Beware!' only applies to financial transactions, but in today's mass media, mass propaganda, mass politicizing environment, we are constantly being 'sold' something and we need to beware of just what it is that we are buying into. (Perhaps it is just Media Psychoses and a Mental Press)

To lack an opinion is to lack thought.

To have an opinion without thought, is sheer stupidity.

As it says somewhere in the Bible, always stand ready to give an account of your 'faith'.

When you don't know the actual facts, all you have is 'faith' and ideology.
