Does the U N Mourn its Loss?

We have all heard by now that Colonel Muammar Gaddafi is dead. Colonel Gaddafi, (according to Wikipedia) was the autocratic ruler of Libya from 1969, when he seized power in a bloodless military coup, until 2011 when his government was overthrown in a civil war which consisted of a popular uprising aided by a foreign intervention.

According to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Gaddafi's death marks an 'historic transition' for the North African country. Exactly what he meant by 'historic transition' I surely don't know.

Although the Civil War and Foreign Intervention were yet years away, Libya, in 2003 (despite the character, behaviour and history of its leader) was voted chairman of the United Nations Human Rights Commission, (despite opposition from the United States and human rights groups) and was nominated for the position by African countries and elected by a clear majority.

Anyone with a little intellect knew that the appointment was a farce but farce is standard fare for the U.N.

  • Former Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Dore Gold recalls the standard pattern: "Hezbullah would launch artillery attacks 50 meters away from a UNIFIL outpost, Israel would shoot back, and UNIFIL would protest against the Israeli response." (United Nations Rising Hypocrisy).

United Nations 'Double Standards'. Photo June 2006 Mid East Truth. Com
The United Nations does and says a lot of strange and farcical things. Just take a look at the photo to the left.

This photo titled: More U.N. Double Standards was posted in June 2006 on the Mid East Truth .com Website

The UN is constantly seeking to pass resolutions against and to condemn Israel for its 'Human Rights' violations but recently came under some pretty heavy fire when it called for closer scrutiny of Libya's state of human rights.

I wonder how closely the United Nations scrutinizes Palestinian abuse of human rights in Gaza? Not Sure!

I am only sure that while seemingly hellbent on supporting the Palestinian cause, United Nations staff spend a lot of time fearing for their lives when they are in Palestine.

  • It seems rather strange that the United Nations staff fear for their lives, when in Palestine at least, the United Nations (and the rest of the world so it seems), thinks that all the problems, violence and poverty in Palestine are caused solely by Israel, and that Palestinian 'soldiers' are brave freedom fighters. (United Nations Rising Hypocrisy).

Anyway, I guess now with Gaddafi's 'passing', the United Nations will be forced to undergo another 'historic transition' of its own.

Will Gaddafi's death do any damage to the finely tuned performance of the United Nations in its dealings with its enemies? (International Observers are Not Neutral)

One can only guess! (Should only take 2 seconds at most.)
