Please take the time to read all of this article. The article is about the effect that the Australian Divorce Court System has on the lives, not only of children, but on the men involved in Divorce. It is not a pleasant story, and I know from a friend in the legal system in America, that your system suffers from the same heartlessness. I am presenting here today a copy of an email I received from 'Tony Miller' tmiller@nor.com.au from an Australian organisation called "Dads in Distress" who wrote: "Could you please bring this story to the attention of those that need to hear it. We are trying to save lives but the chaos in the courts is making it impossible". (I have removed or relocated some information from and within the original email). Original Message ----- From: S.M. To: Tony Miller Sent: Friday, October 21, 2005 4:30 AM I have prepared this email in concern over a system that has been overloaded by new applications filings in the Family Law Court and Federal Magistrate Court. There have been approx. 20,000 new application filed in the last few months. The system is overloading and there is a waiting list of up to 6 to 12 months on Interim order applications and up to 2 years on final order applications in most registries. This waiting period is usually referred to as the period you don�t get to see your kids. Sort of like Alienation by Default. THE CASUALITIES I had friend, a MATE, in the Brisbane registry yesterday after attempting to file his documents and being informed it would take up to 10 months to see his kids. He simply went to the toilets at the registry and tied his tie to the sprinkler system and hung himself in hopelessness. He has two children Jacob 6yrs and Michael 10 yrs. Two children now left without a DAD due to a failing system. I don�t know about you but apart of me dies when a mate dies in hopelessness. Yours Faithfully - S. M. Now 2 kids don't have a dad, a mum,dad and family are left grieving. Just weeks ago a 16 year old young girl devestated by her parents divorce suicided in her old family home see www.dadsindistress.asn.au Tony Millers Diary. This guy was an accountant, had a good job and was no dill. Hopelessness and Fatherlessness just caught up with him. He apparently approached court staff and was told nothing could be done for him. Just weeks ago a well known local entertainer here in Coffs Harbour suicided over relationship breakdown. On the opening of the centre here another local identity suicided from the same. And this is happening all over the country. This has got to stop, we need your help........This is REAL........Send a message to your local MP and tell them this is unacceptable and do what the author asks, please........ Some men who run away, or hit the bottle, or take up bad habits or who turn to violence, do so as an escape from the pain. THEY JUST CAN'T HANDLE THE PAIN, and self righteous onlookers 'tut tut' and more seriously, vilify such men, NEVER UNDERSTANDING their pain.
