I have over the years written many articles against Political Correctness Activists. I never waver for a moment in saying that many issues have a fundamentally justified foundation, but that for the activist, the foundation is really nothing more than personal power.
I believe in women's rights and equality, but oppose militaristic feminism because it is unashamedly 'sexist and discriminatory'. I think a person's sexuality and sexual activities are personal and not the business of gossips and intolerant or insecure people, but I dislike 'gay activism', because it does not stand for equality and non discrimination, but rather has a caustic tongue and an abusive personality which is directed toward anyone who does not 'actively' approve of homosexuality.
As I do come from a multi-ethnic, multi-racial, multi-color, multi-religion family I have nothing against people of other races, colors or religions, but I do abhor the 'politically correct' [read culturally incorrect] pretense that because we choose to uphold our national culture over immigrant culture, that we are racists.
Just the other night I sat with someone who went on and on about the Han Chinese and how much they dislike them. By 'politically correct' standards, that person is a racist, and quite coincidentally, is a Han Chinese.
I have written many times that one really needs to live in a Communist country to understand what 'political correctness' is really about. It is about 'power'; about 'control'; about concealing the truth by hiding it behind nice words. This for me is the reality of 'political correctness'. No matter it's foundations and causes, the activists who trumpet it the loudest, are the least 'non discriminatory'; the least supportive of 'equality', and the least concerned about human suffering, particularly the kind that follows their own unabashedly vicious attacks on those who do not yield to their demands.
Holding such views therefore, it was very interesting to read an article written by Melanie Phillips, in relation to Richard Dawkins recent appearance at the Global Atheists Convention in Melbourne Australia.
Referring to Dawkins as 'the high priest of belief in unbelief' Phillips made the observation that although Dawkins preaches that the world would be a better and more tolerant place if religion were abolished, he himself is quite an intolerant man.
Phillips observation is that Dawkins believes that everyone who believes in God is stupid or evil and since Christians believe in God, those who oppose him must be Christian and evil.
She relates her own first hand experience of his attitude, in that Dawkins accused her of "lying for Jesus" by misquoting him, and this despite the fact that she is Jewish and writes for Jewish Newspapers.
But the most telling of her observations was when she wrote the following.
- To stamp out the terrifying possibility of even a divine toe peeping over the threshold, all opposition has to be shut down. And so the great paradox is that the arch-hater of religious intolerance himself behaves with the zeal of a religious fundamentalist and, despite excoriating religion for stifling debate, does this in spades.
Such indoctrination is a hallmark of the fundamentalist who knows he is not just right but righteous. So all who oppose him are by definition not just wrong but evil. Which is why alternative views must be howled down or suppressed.
This is, of course, the characteristic of all totalitarian regimes, including religious inquisitions.
It is those few words that encapsulate what I see in 'Political Correctness activism'. It is not the means to a better world; of tolerance, love, acceptance and brotherhood, it is the manifestation of a 'psycho-spiritual' craving for recognition; recognition as a superior person, a righteous individual, a perfect man/woman.
Each and every person, word or deed that challenges the activist, is viewed as a 'sinful' rejection of the core value of that activist; a rejection of the self-proclaimed righteousness that lives within the mind and heart of that individual. It is an outright 'demonic' attack on the 'Divine Principle manifest in the mind and flesh' of that individual, and as such is deserving of the most bitter judgment and punishment.
Indeed, as Melanie Phillips pointed out, 'anti-religion' is just another religion. And I would add, one that lacks a principle of divine forgiveness reconciliation.
Each and every time we shut our mouths and do not object to the sheer stupidity of 'political correctness', we give it power. But 'political correctness' is not a living being. It is a tool used by those seeking personal affirmation and / or public adoration.
The most frightening thing to consider, when one sees 'political correctness' spokespersons frothing at the mouth, is that their manifestations of disgust at the politically incorrect, is identical to 'reaction formation'; a psychotic disorder in which what the mouth says, is the exact opposite of what lives in the heart.
Tolerance, understanding, non discrimination, are attitudes of the heart, and no 'hate speech laws' or politically ratified regulations, will ever result in anything more than lip service from those who do not have those qualities within.
Ask the Chinese. They will tell you. 'Just say what is expected of you to stay out of trouble. You don't have to believe what you say'.
Melanie Phillips's new book, The World Turned Upside Down: The Global Battle over God, Truth and Power, will be published by Encounter, New York, on April 20.

- "Middle America, those millions of mainly Christian souls who are Israel's staunchest supporters in the world, should be made aware of what their President is doing turning the United States into a betrayer of democracy, human rights and the Jewish people to become no less than an accessory to terror.
Are we seeing the beginning (heaven forbid) of the Obama intifada?"
