I currently work a four day week, teaching every weekday but Tuesday, and today although I had plans, thanks to the rain I ended up watching an episode of 'Touched by an Angel' on YouTube. The episode titled "Charades" was naturally about God restoring relationships but in this episode, the background to the story was the McCarthy era 'communist witch-hunts' known as the 'Second Red Scare.' According to Wikipedia:
McCarthyism is the practice of making accusations of disloyalty, subversion, or treason without proper regard for evidence. It also means "the practice of making unfair allegations or using unfair investigative techniques, especially in order to restrict dissent or political criticism
The primary targets of such suspicions were government employees, those in the entertainment industry, educators and union activists. Suspicions were often given credence despite inconclusive or questionable evidence, and the level of threat posed by a person's real or supposed leftist associations or beliefs was often greatly exaggerated. Many people suffered loss of employment and/or destruction of their careers; some even suffered imprisonment.
In this 'Touched by an Angel' episode a particular point was stated in different ways at different times about how FEAR of those with political power caused otherwise good and honest people to err both by both commission and omission. People who exercised their freedom of thought, belief and speech became targets of those who believed that they had no right to those thoughts and beliefs and certainly no right to speak about them. And such was the fear of so many people, that they willingly succumbed to the pressure of the powers that were, to turn against their friends, family and work colleagues.
Today, we live in a society that says 'thank God' that that type of behavior is way back there in the past. Unfortunately it is not! Our Western societies are full of 'ideologues' using every means at their disposal to force their ideological principles onto people who ought to have the right to reject those ideas and ideals. But with each new day leading us into our future, we are being lead deeper and deeper into an ideology of 'submission to the powers that be.
Do you dislike abortion? Off with his head! Do you believe homosexuality is a sin? Burn him at the stake! Do you dislike Muslims? Charge him with a hate crime! Do you believe in the Bible? Put him into psychiatric care! Are you a patriot? Kill the oppressor of innocents! Do you love your country's traditions and culture? Tar and feather the racist, xenophobic, intolerant miscreant!
The basis of Western Democracy is believed to be the right to have and hold beliefs and associations together with the right to speak out your opinions at the appropriate times in the appropriate venues. The cherished myth of Democracy is that you are entitled to your beliefs even as I am entitled to mine, even if they are polar opposites.
Today however true democratic freedoms are being lost. One only has to see proposed legislation in relation to 'hate speech,' where truth is no defense to such a charge, and legislation to give the United Nations control of the internet in an environment in which it is plainly obvious that the United Nations is a factional player for a team which does not believe in truth let alone giving the populace access to anything with which it disagrees.
I have lived in the People's Republic of China for 11 years and despite all those things of which the allegedly 'free and democratic' peoples of the world complain in their litany of complaints against China, I look at and read about what is going on in the West and think "Do they really think they are more free than people in China?"
The myth about China is that people walk around in fear. That is not true! It was true in the past when political correctness reigned supreme during the Cultural Revolution. But the Chinese are a smart people. They soon learned the error of their ways.
I just wonder if the West will.

Islamophobia: Irrational Phobia or Rational Fear?
by R.P. BenDedek
February 13, 2014
I called that xxxxx a dirty rotten liar because he is a dirty rotten liar, not because I hate Islam or Muslims. By some people's definition of Islamophobia, saying anything nasty about a Muslim should be a crime - even if it is true. You think I made that up didn't you? The fact of the matter is that it has twice already been declared in a court of law the 'truth' is no defense in a 'hate speech' trial. My fear is that my own country has become so weak, gutless and godless that one day it will become an Islamic Republic. My fear is quite rational. Do I blame Muslims for this? No!
The Hidden Agenda: Israel, Palestine and Egypt.

It seems that Israel has conspired to keep the truth from us. Watch the video and see how Israel treats Muslims, Druze and Arabs of all persuasions. But what is Egypt today? First and foremost it is an Islamic Country, one that has been struggling to catch up with Western economic success. But it is not exactly a success story
