I subscribe to a number of different newsletters relating to world news, politics and religion. Today I was reading an article entitled: Eliminate 90% of the Human Race? by Brad Harrub, Ph.D.
I decided to check the article out, and found other reports on the issue here and here.
The story was about the speech made by Dr. Eric Pianka at the 109th meeting of the Texas Academy of Science at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. The meeting, held March 3-5, 2006, honored Pianka, an evolutionary ecologist and lizard expert, as the 2006 Distinguished Texas Scientist.
The source material for what transpired came from attendee Forest Sims who observed that when the speech was to be made, the cameras were turned off because the general public is not yet ready to hear what the scientest was about to say.
Dr. Pianka proposed eliminating most of the world's population, through the use of diseases, as they offered the most efficient and fastest way to kill the billions that must soon die if the population crisis is to be solved.
Instead of being outraged by the solution offered, the good scientist was given a loud, vigorous and enthusiastic ovation.
I noted in an internet search that some sites offered a defence for the accusations that some had made about the good scientist, and I'm sure you will be able to find such places yourselves, and arrive at your own conclusions.
But for my money, it makes me wonder if maybe some of the conspiracy theorists that pop up from time to time, are not as crazy as they sound.

Editor's Note: Dr. Eric Pianka has been speaking all over the world, and he is generally not considered to be a lunatic by the scientific community, particularly the green, global-warming, people-hating crowd.
