A Sad World Full of Cheaters

As my readers are aware, 2009/2010 was for me, a year in which I had to deal with Chinese tricksters and cheaters, but recently, while here in Australia, I came across another situation in which a 'shady character' posing as a professional, has caused grief to a number of people.

When we do business with a company, we assume that because their credentials seem to be in order, that the company and its representatives are reputable. But this is not always so. This much I personally discovered in Baotou in Inner Mongolia at the Easy English Training School.

But recently in Queensland, a young couple I know who run a professional 'House Painting Company' called Green and Gold Painters North Lakes, were confronted on the telephone with a very angry customer. There were three problems with the call.

  • The first problem was that this customer was complaining about shoddy workmanship.

The second problem was that this customer was not a customer of Green and Gold Painters North Lakes.

The third problem was that the shoddy painter who did this customers work, had provided the Licence Number owned by Green and Gold Painters North Lakes.

The owner of Green and Gold Painters North Lakes, Tyson Lette, is a young married giant of a man with an affable nature and a professional approach to his work. The day the angry customer phoned, I was actually in the room and heard one end of the lengthy conversation. I am not sure what took place between the customer and the shonky painter, but the customer eventually checked out the Licence Number provided, and then dialled the telephone number of the registered owner.

The shonky painter had not only cheated his client, but in providing the Licence Number for Green and Gold Painters North Lakes, he had put them in the firing line of an official Industry complaint. It leaves the question begging: 'Has this painter illegally used other painter's licences before?'

Imagine that you are a business operator going about your work to the best of your ability, doing 'your all' to build up a client base and professional reputation, only to discover that someone has been illegally using your Licence Number and in the process, destroying your credibility. Worse still, can you imagine losing your license because of such a thing?

Fortunately the angry customer was satisfied that Tyson's company had had nothing to do with the shoddy job. Nevertheless both Tyson and that customer are feeling the 'sting' of what has transpired, and they are now working together to track down the shoddy operator.

In this world in which it is demonstrated daily that there is no need for us to take responsibility for our actions; where the bottom line is always about 'how I can benefit myself'; where all that our politically correct language has done is to teach us how to lie with genuine compassion, it seems to be getting easier and easier to get ripped off by cheaters, and harder and harder to convince the young that honesty and decency pays off.

I personally find it strange that in a world that has killed off God and replaced him with secular humanism, that at the end of the day our humanism has been reduced to simple 'selfishness' at others expense. Our 'rights' to do this and that have supplanted everyone else's right to live a peaceful, happy and unhindered life.

Me! Me! Me! That is what 21st century life is degenerating into. On the other hand, behavioural studies show that every 3rd to 4th generation turns back to values held by earlier generations. If that holds true, and provided we don't destroy ourselves in the meantime, by the end of this century, our young people will be sober solid citizens putting the needs of society before their own selfish gain. Let's hope so anyway!
