Tea Party "Betrayed" on Budget Deal

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- On this morning's cloture vote on the Ryan-Murray budget in the U.S. Senate and following last week's passage in the U.S. House, Todd Cefaratti, founder of the nation's largest grassroots tea party group TheTeaParty.net, said, "When historians look back on the decaying institution known as the Republican Party, they'll mark this day as a seminal moment when the GOP surrendered its principles and voted to become part of the problem."

"More and more people across the country are asking, "What is the purpose of the Republican Party?" And it's harder and harder to find answer other than that the GOP increasingly sees itself as a rubber stamp for the liberal agenda. The truth is this bill ads $63 billion in additional spending and is a green light for Harry Reid to raise taxes."

He added, "There's nothing conservative about this budget deal. We knew we couldn't count on Susan Collins and John McCain, but our supposed allies and friends who so often claim the mantle of conservatism have betrayed us. John Boehner and Paul Ryan are at the top of the list."
