Lawrence H. Smith

MEDWAY -- Lawrence H. "Larry" Smith, 75, died Thursday, March 1, 2007, at a Millinocket health care facility. He was born May 1, 1931, in Anson, the son of Herbert L. and Mildred (Gilman) Smith.

Larry worked in the paper industry for many years, first in Madison, and then at Great Northern Paper, East Millinocket, retiring in 1987. He was an avid fisherman and was a member of the Paperworker's Union and the East Branch Sno Rovers, East Millinocket.

Larry is survived by his wife of 26 years, Sheila (McLeod) Smith of Medway; four stepchildren: Susan Quick of Knox, Steven Quick and his wife, Angel, of Corinna, Sandi McLeod and her husband, Gary, of East Millinocket, and Ted Quick of Medway; a daughter, Nancy Chasse and her husband, Norman, of East Millinocket; a son, Kim Smith and his wife, Irina, of New Jersey; and three brothers: Russell Smith and his wife, Maxine, of Anson, Robert Smith and his wife, Trudy, of Madison, and Kenneth Smith of Skowhegan. Larry will also be missed by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by two brothers: Jack Smith and Royal Fogg; and a sister, Ruth Young.

Graveside services will be held at a later date at Anson Cemetery, Anson. Gifts in memory of Larry may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, Maine Chapter, 163 Lancaster St., Suite 160B, Portland, ME 04101.
