MILLINOCKET -- Carl W. Sawyer, 74, died Tuesday, May 22, 2007, at Millinocket Regional Hospital, with all his loving family by his side. He was born December 29, 1932, in Millinocket, the son of Frank L. and Mabel R. (McFarlane) Sawyer.

Carl served in the U.S. Navy for 27 years, retiring in 1976. After his time in the Navy, Carl worked at Great Northern Paper Company, Millinocket, as security supervisor for 12 years, retiring in 1990. Carl was a member of the American Legion, Rodney Stinson Post No. 80, Millinocket, B.P.O.E. No. 1521, Millinocket, and the Fleet Reserve Association.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Earlene "Neanie" (Russell) Sawyer of Millinocket; four daughters: Terry Lynn Sportelli and Carla J. Bean and her husband, Richard, all of Rhode Island, Lori Fitzgerald and Tori G. Brown and Kevin, all of Millinocket; a sister, Betty Wheaton of Millinocket; nine grandchildren: Jesse Bean and his wife, Heather, Jessica Bean, Leanne, Joseph and Nicholus Sportelli, Jeremy Munoz, Bradley Fitzgerald, and Josh and Toni Brown; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Carl was predeceased by his parents; and a brother, Frank L. Sawyer Jr.

Friends are invited to visit with the family between the hours of 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Friday at Bouchard - Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack Street, Millinocket, where an Elks memorial service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. by the officers of B.P.O.E. Lodge No. 1521. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 26, at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 112 Maine Avenue, Millinocket, with the Rev. Joel Cyr, pastor, presider.

Interment, with military honors, will be held after at Millinocket Cemetery. Gifts in memory of Carl may be sent to the Katahdin Area Support Group, 10 Field Street, Millinocket, ME 04462. Condolences to the family may be expressed at
