ACT! for America Legislative Action Alert!

Stop Hezbollah Now Support S. 2329

The Hezbollah International Financing Prevention Act

Hezbollah has been a dangerous and destabilizing force in the Middle East and around the world for more than thirty years. It has committed many acts of terrorism, violence and intimidation. The U.S. Congress may soon act on this problem, but they need to hear from you.

Recently Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), introduced S. 2329, the Hezbollah International Financing Prevention Act of 2014, a bipartisan bill that seeks to widen the scope of Hezbollah sanctions by going after the terrorist group's drug trafficking and public relations arms. Until this point they have operated with relative impunity across the globe, including in Latin America.

Act! for America has placed S. 2329 and its sister bill in the House the (under the same name), H.R. 4411, on our list of high priority legislation. H.R. 4411 was introduced by Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC/11th).

The new sanctions are needed in order to impede Hezbollah's growing global network, which includes drug rings, criminal networks, and terror funding. The bill targets Hezbollah's drug operations by creating Narcotics Trafficking Organizations. These groups would aim to break up the terrorist's narcotics network.

S. 2329 also targets Hezbollah's international financing operations. The sanctions proposed in the bill would crack down on foreign banks, especially those that do business with Hezbollah and that move money on the group's behalf.

Upon introducing her bill, Senator Shaheen said, "Hezbollah is one of the world's most dangerous terrorist organizations and we must block the group's access to financial and logistic support," adding "In addition to being responsible for the murder of hundreds of American citizens, Hezbollah continues to sponsor terrorism across the globe and destabilize the Middle East, particularly through its support to President Bashar al-Assad's brutal regime in Syria. This legislation makes clear that Hezbollah's supporters and enablers will face consequences."

Will you help assure that this important bill moves through the legislative process and is passed into law by letting your two members of the U.S. Senate know of your support? It only takes a few simple but very important steps noted below -- but when your voice is joined with the other 280,000 members of ACT! for America, it creates quite a roar!

*** IMPORTANT ACTION ITEM! ***
