WASHINGTON, DC -- The U.S. Senate tonight passed the VA conference agreement that Rep. Mike Michaud worked to finalize with Rep. Jeff Miller (R-FL) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) this past weekend. The House passed the conference legislation yesterday by an overwhelming 420-5 vote.
Rep. Michaud, who also serves as Ranking Member on the House Veterans' Affairs Committee, released the following statement after tonight's vote:
"I'm glad to see the bipartisan momentum behind our VA legislation continue. It is time to begin a new chapter at the VA, one in which there is a positive culture driven by a desire to meet the needs of veterans above all else. We have an incredible opportunity right now to create a stronger, more transparent and more veteran-centric Department. I look forward to working with Secretary McDonald and my colleagues on both sides of the aisle as we begin the task ahead of creating real change within the VA."
