Michael Michaud Must Hold Health Care Town Hall Before Vote
Lawmaker Scheduled to Return to Maine at End of March
Auburn, Maine - President Obama recently set and arbitrary deadline of March 18, for House and Senate lawmakers to pass his Health Care Legislation, presented just last week. The fast-track pace the health care bill is on is eliminating any opportunity for the people of Maine to speak with and/or hear from their Congressman directly on the issue. The United state House is scheduled for "Spring District Work Period" March 29 to April 9, giving members a perfect and timely opportunity to meet with voters.
"This bill is thousands of pages and not only do the people have the right to have time to review it, they should have the right to speak to their voting members of Congress on the matter," said Jason Levesque, 2nd District Congressional Candidate.
- "And, what is the rush? Why would this vote be rammed through and completed just 11 days before lawmakers are scheduled to return to their home districts? I have to wonder if the member of Congress simply want to make sure they do not have to hear form voters and be held accountable to them."
Mike Michaud failed to hold any in person Town Hall meeting with voters during the 2009 calendar year while Congress was debating such matters as Health Care, Cap and Trade energy tax and the massive stimulus bills and auto dealer bailouts.
"These folks we have in Washington have forgotten who they are there to represent. We, as citizens, have been very vocal in our opposition to this 2.5 trillion dollar health care debacle and Mike Michaud must agree to come home and listen to us before casting a vote. There is no other acceptable way," Levesque said.
The bill before Congress is estimated to have a price tag upwards of $2.5 TRILLION dollars, cuts Medicare by a half trillion, is predicted to lose millions of jobs and includes several tax hikes and mandates.
"It is time to do what the majority of people are asking for - scrap this bill and start anew. The cost impact of this legislation will destroy businesses, hurt struggling families and seniors, and is ultimately nothing more than a cost-shifting scheme moving the price tag of health care from the consumer to taxpayers," noted Levesque.
Jason has been campaigning for real health care reform that includes small business pooling, allowing individuals to purchase insurance across state lines, and medical malpractice reform to remove the defense attorney from the exam room.
