WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Rep. Mike Michaud released the following statement tonight, following President Obama's national address regarding ISIS:
"I was glad to hear the President finally begin to outline a strategy for confronting ISIS and the serious threat they pose to our national security. I expect this to be just the beginning of ongoing consultation and cooperation with Congress on this matter.
"I support the President's plans to expand airstrikes against ISIS targets. It's also a positive sign that the President is asking for Congressional authority to arm and train forces within Syria to fight members of ISIS in their country, as this is clearly beyond the current scope of our operations. I will be attending a classified briefing tomorrow for Members of Congress, and I expect we will receive more comprehensive details that will be necessary as we consider the President's request.
"On the eve of the 13th anniversary of the September 11th attacks, tonight's remarks from the President are a solemn reminder that one of our highest duties as elected officials is working together to protect American interests and lives. Over the coming weeks, we must -- and we will -- work together to build consensus and take the appropriate actions needed to confront this serious threat."
