This Veterans' Day we honor the men and women who have risked their lives defending our nation, and the families who have stood by them.
We show our respect for the sacrifices made by generations of heroes with speeches, parades and music. We do these things to make sure that on this day we make the extra effort to remember the willingness of our veterans to risk everything to defend a dream of hope, a dream of equality, a dream of freedom, a dream of America.
Yet the thanks that we give should not be limited to just this day, nor to just words and symbols. We must show our thanks with actions everyday.
We are facing difficult times but our values and our priorities will guide us through as they always have. It is my greatest honor to work hard every day for those who fought for us, and I will continue to ensure that the care of our veterans remains a priority for this government.
As citizens young and old observe Veterans' Day, a new generation of veterans is serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. We pray for their safety, and we hope that they may return home to their loved ones as soon as possible.
We also say thank you to the families of our veterans. They have provided the strength and support at home while their family member is deployed, and they help care for their loved one once they are home.
Our country owes a great debt to its veterans and, on this day, to our veterans, we say thank you. May God bless our veterans and their families, and may God bless the United States of America.
