WASHINGTON, DC -- Today, Representative Mike Michaud issued the following statement on House consideration of a continuing resolution (CR) to fund the federal government:
"This bill does nothing but move our nation closer to a government shutdown. Rather than consider the Senate-passed bill that would avoid a shutdown and allow for continued negotiations, House leaders chose more political brinkmanship.
Instead of taking up a bipartisan balanced budget amendment that would establish a realistic budget cycle and put us on a sustainable fiscal path, congressional leaders are once again trying to score partisan points and kicking the can down the road.
The politicking needs to end. Congress needs to pass a CR to avoid a government shutdown. There's not much time left, and I'm hoping cooler heads prevail. When this manufactured crisis is behind us, we need to get to work in a truly bipartisan fashion on the pressing, long-term fiscal issues facing our country."
Michaud is a cosponsor of H.J.Res. 24, a balanced budget amendment that was introduced by Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI). The bill currently has 36 bipartisan cosponsors.
