WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congressman Mike Michaud issued the following statement on the 10th anniversary of the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks:
"As we reflect on the events of September 11th, 2001, we remember the actions of some of the best among us. Ten years ago, the actions of our fellow citizens demonstrated what it is to be an American - they showed courage in the face of danger, looked out for their neighbor, and put others before themselves.
"It is with a heavy heart that we remember the fallen and reflect on their lives. And for those that made the ultimate sacrifice to help others on that day, we are forever grateful and we will never forget.
"We remember where we were ten years ago and what we were doing. Each year since, we've honored and reflected upon the lives that were lost. And I know I join many Mainers in recalling the sense of national unity we felt in the wake of those attacks.
"We learned that day that what brings us together is much stronger than what drives us apart. We are all Americans first. And it is this unity that makes us strong and allows us to continue to overcome adversity. It is in that spirit that we carry on."
