Health Care Reform or Political Opportunism?

Levesque: Mainers don't want it.

Pelosi Does. Congressman Michaud, who do you choose?

Auburn, Maine - Chaos has taken over Congress as they spend today jumping through hoops to find ways not to improve the health care legislation, but just to get it passed. This, despite recent polling that indicated the large majority of Americans are opposed to the legislation.

"When the public is telling you they do not want this massive spending bill, that is will raise their costs, that it will create mandates they don't want and spending they don't need, why would you vote for it? The only answer is, because partisanship has taken over the interests of the public," said Jason Levesque, 2ndDistrict Congressional Candidate. "Congressman Michaud, within the next week you will be given a choice: vote the wishes of the people, or vote the wishes of Nancy Pelosi. Which will you choose?"

Congress is spending today working on a bill to fix all the flaws in the original bill, yet are still planning on voting on the flawed legislation before next week.

"How does this happen? Congress gets to a point where they decide they will pass a bill they know is wrong for America, let it become law and then fix it. Our leaders have gone astray and it is time to right this ship. As I called for last week, Congressman Michaud needs to wait a few extra days and return home as scheduled at the end of the month, hold some Town Hall meetings and public forums and not just hear his constituents, but listen to them. The process is out of control. No matter what they include in the reconciliation bill, nothing will fix it. We need to scrap it and start again, " Levesque said.

The public is urged to do as Jason has done and call Congressman Michaud office and demand he come home for Spring District Work Period (March 27 through April 4) before voting on this legislation. Congressman Michaud's Office may be reached by calling 202-225-6306.
