John Frary, candidate for US Congress, issued the following statement:

"Wednesday evening August 30th, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to go home without addressing the current energy crisis. I do not believe that using up gas, aviation and diesel fuel to head on home for a five week vacation is useful response to the energy crisis."

"This motion to go on vacation passed by just ONE VOTE, 213-212. Congressman Mike Michaud voted to "abandon ship".

"From what I heard, the Circus must have been in town. There were several dozen Cub Scouts sitting on the House floor in seats normally occupied by members. When the Republicans kept talking after the vote, Speaker Nancy Pelosi turned off the lights and killed the microphones, but Republicans kept right on talking about doing something about high gas prices. Democrats [were furious at the GOP stunt, and reporters were kicked out of the Speaker's Lobby, the space next to the House floor where they normally interview lawmakers.]

'It is my understanding that one of the Republicans snuck over to the Democrat side of the aisle and said 'I am a Democrat and here is my energy plan' and he held up a picture of an old Volkswagen Bug with a sail attached to it. He paraded around he house floor with the sign while the crowd cheered.

'You're not covering this, are you?' complained one senior Democratic aide. Another called the Republicans 'morons' for staying on the floor.

Frary concluded: "The upshot of all this is that Nancy Pelosi has managed by a one-vote margin to delay a debate on drilling for oil on American soil. Mike Michaud provided that vote. He is the only so called 'Blue Dog' Democrat still on his leash. Nancy allows her obedient poodle a contrary vote 3% of the time, but this is not one of those times. It's all right with her if he paints a little blue dot on himself by voting for gun rights, etc. That plays well in Maine's second district. But she requires him to vote the San Francisco way when it comes down to the close votes, like holding on to the environmentalist wedge issue.'

"The most enjoyable politician's web site that I've read in a long long time. Aside from a few cringe-inducing lines, I found it stimulating and enlightening. Note to Congressman Michaud:Always beware the man who just doesn't care whether he lives or dies. He will always have the edge." Maj. D. J. Hanson
