Maine Elks Honor American Flag
On June 14, 2007, members and officers of the Maine Elks Association (MEA) held their annual Flag Day service at the Togus V.A. Medical Center in Augusta. The service commemorated the 232nd anniversary of the adoption of the "Stars and Stripes." The ceremony was held on behalf of veterans at the hospital, which was broadcast on the VA center's closed-circuit television system.

The winners of the coloring contest were: Michael Hufford representing the Skowhegan-Madison Elks Lodge and Kalyla Hanson representing the Presque Isle Elks Lodge. The poster contest winners were: Josh King representing the Augusta Elks Lodge and Rebekah Handley representing the York Elks Lodge. The winners of the essay contest were: Austin O., representing the Rumford Elks Lodge, and Jasmyn Leigh Murray representing the Millinocket Elks Lodge.

Maine Elks Install Officers
AUGUSTA, MAINE -- On May 1-3, 2009, the Maine Elks Association elected and installed its slate of officers for the 2009-2010 association year at their 80th Annual State Convention held in Augusta at the Augusta Elks Lodge. Installed as State President was Michael Powers of the Houlton Elks Lodge #835. Powers, in his opening remarks, congratulated outgoing President Robert Drisko of the Augusta Elks Lodge #964 for his dedication to the principals of the Order and for a successful year. He also thanked the members for their support, and encouraged each Lodge to give 100% support to the Elk programs.

Maine Elks Announce 2009 State Hoop Shoot Winners
AUGUSTA, MAINE -- The Maine Elks Association (MEA) State Hoop Shoot competition was held on February 1, 2009, at Cony High School in Augusta. The event was hosted by the Augusta Elks Lodge #1964. Eighteen boys and girls competed in the contest to determine the six state champions, who have earned the right to advance to the regional contest to be held in South Portland, Maine on March 27-29, 2009.

Elks National President Visits Maine
PORTLAND -- On Sunday, November 9, 2008 the Grand Exalted Ruler of the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks, Paul D. Helsel and his wife Jane arrived at the Portland International Airport for their official four day visit to the State of Maine. Greeting them at the airport was Past Grand Exalted Ruler Amos McCallum of Saco, Maine Elks State President Robert Drisko of Chelsea, and several other Grand Lodge and State dignitaries. The Helsel's are from Newark, Delaware, and are traveling across the country to meet with local officials and to promote the charitable works of the Order.

Maine Elks Ritual Team Wins 9th Straight Regional Championships
SANFORD -- The Maine Elks Association Ritual Team continued their domination of the Area I Interstate-Relations Ritual Roulette Championships by winning for the ninth straight year, and retiring their third regional trophy. The event was held at the Sanford Elks Lodge on October 5, 2008. The purpose of the contest was to promote excellence in the performance of the Elks initiation ritual, and to foster better relations among the State Elks Associations.

Maine Elks Ride for Children with Cancer
AUGUSTA -- On July 21, 2007, the Maine Elks Association (MEA) held its annual "Owie Box" motorcycle ride for children in the Maine Children's Cancer Program (MCCP). The event attracted 126 motorcycle enthusiasts, who raised a record setting total of $25,340, exceeding last year's record by over $4,000 dollars. The event raised money for MCCP and its "Owie Box" program. The "Owie Box" provides toys and other items for children who undergo painful procedures at the clinic.

Elks National Foundation Will Grant $119,166 to Maine
CHICAGO, IL -- Through state grants, the ENF provides state associations with the resources to support national programs, expand their existing charitable projects, and explore new initiatives. This year, the ENF will grant $5.45 million to the state Elks associations. The ENF will give $119,166 back to Maine in special project grants and major project grants to support scholarships, Hoop Shoot, veterans programs,  and the state's major charitable projects; the Diabetes-Hypertension Van and the. Maine Children's Cancer Program.
