Columbia - The Seven
An original poem by Martha Stevens-David 2003
They suited up and stowed their gear
And settled in their seats
They rode a shuttle to the stars
With promises to keep...
Seven souls and sixteen days
They slept and ate and worked
They looked into a vast expanse
As they orbited the earth...
Then came the time and homeward bound
But they didn't get to stay
For fate had other plans for them
On this, their final day...
A nation cries, their families weep
As they're gathered up and laid to sleep
Heroes all, these seven souls
Who forever dwell amongst the stars...
