MCAC has been a bit quiet lately, but we have been busy.
Due to problems that required the committee to change our policy on meetings, we find it necessary for those wishing to join to contact us rather than opening our meetings to the general public, as was our regular practice.
Any Millinocket citizen interested in joining can contact MCAC:
- By email at: maine_kat@hotmail.com (maine_kat@hotmail.com)
- By postal mail at: MCAC, P.O Box 107, Millinocket, ME 04462
- Or phone us at either 723-4226 or 723-6290.
We hope to hear from you.
Currently, we are working on having a fundraising raffle with the proceeds to be used for community events. MCAC has four items for the raffle to be drawn off. Two beautiful afghans, one blue and white child's afghan handmade and donated by Money McGibbon and a sage green afghan handmade and donated by Gale Linscott. The other two items are a wreath donated by MCAC that was made by Kathy Gagnon who has also painted and donated a child size decorative rocking horse.
MCAC is also working to try to assist in any way with finding a home for the town's museum. So far, that has been limited to making inquiries to provide information to the Historical Society and taking pictures of some items in the museum. We hope to see more citizens take an interest in helping to find a home for the museum as it is long past due for a home of its own.
We are also preparing to become more active again in our search for an area veterinarian. MCAC has continued our search, though less vocally since receiving word that a clinic may locate in Medway. While we hope this happens as publicized in the newspaper, the June 1 opening day is fast approaching with no further word.
We were unaware of this plan when we first began our search, but chose to continue the search to bring a veterinarian to the area that will be able to provide local services beyond the limitations of a clinic, such as x-rays, surgery, and emergency care.
MCAC has reorganized the sub-committee on this project for a fresh approach. We have been contacted by a couple of interested parties to whom we have sent the results of our survey and other information that we feel will be helpful. We hope to hear back from them soon and shall continue our search until the Katahdin area has local veterinary care for our beloved pets on a regular basis.
MCAC's proposal for suggestions to improve Peddler's Hill was received by the Town Council some time ago, but we have not received word as to whether they intend to approve a plan for it as they have been busy with the town's budget. Once we know if the council is interested in approving a revitalization effort for Peddler's Hill, we will begin a fundraising campaign with next spring being our target to begin.
