The second meeting of MCAC has brought progress both in the search for an area veterinarian and with fundraising projects.
A sub-committee working to bring a veterinarian to the area, being led by volunteers Alyce Maragus and Lisa McLaughlin has produced some leads and information which has also resulted in publicity about the search in an article published in the Bangor Daily News. There is an overwhelming need for a veterinarian in the Katahdin area and we hope to successfully achieve the goal of locating one willing to provide local health care for area pets.
Two fundraising projects are currently being planned to begin raising funds for future holiday event projects and with the Peddlers’ Hill proposal.
One planned fundraiser is a raffle. We have already been offered some great items for the raffle and will be seeking as many more as we can find so that the raffle can offer several prizes. Anyone wishing to donate an item for the raffle to support MCAC’s efforts may contact Rose Weymouth at 723-4226 or Kathy Gagnon at 723-6290 or email at maine_kat@hotmail.com.
The other fundraising project being planned is a benefit supper and bake sale. This is in the early planning stage, but we will be looking for volunteers to bake goodies to sell at the supper. We are also looking for volunteers interested in helping to provide entertainment. It would be great to see area students or citizens who can either sing or play an instrument volunteer to perform.
The next meeting will be Tuesday, March 6, 2007 in the Council Chambers at the Municipal Building from 6:00 to 7:00.
Items on the agenda for that meeting will be developing sub-committees for projects, update on the veterinarian search, and fundraising projects.
We had hoped to air a survey on KAT-TV, but our request was met with a lukewarm response and numerous suggestions for alternatives.
Rather than delay any further, since we feel it is important to allow the citizens an opportunity to voice their opinions on issues concerning Millinocket, we have asked Ken to put it out to the citizens on MCMS.
Our aim is to try to make it available to everyone interested as best we can rather than incur the costs of trying to mail them out. We will also put some in a few public places for those who do not own a computer to have the same opportunity to respond to the survey.
At this time, that is the best that we can do with the survey without having to use valuable donation money for mailing.
We hope everyone who wishes to respond does so. We plan to have the survey published here and available at various public locations next week.
MCAC is very interested in hearing what the citizens have to say about a variety of subjects and we hope everyone takes this opportunity to express their thoughts.
