East Millinocket Mill Workers Eligible for Trade Adjustment Assistance
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congressman Mike Michaud announced today that the U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL) has determined that approximately 262 workers from the Great Northern Paper Company in East Millinocket will be eligible for Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) benefits. Rep. Michaud worked at the GNP mill for three decades immediately prior to his election to Congress.

"We had a productive meeting with the leadership of Cate Street and Great Northern Paper in which they stated that they have a plan for restarting the mill in East Millinocket with the hope of returning some workers by May 1st. We look forward to reviewing the plan and staying in touch with Cate Street as they implement it.

Michaud Meets with Boston Fire Chief, East Millinocket Native
WASHINGTON, DC - Yesterday, Representative Mike Michaud met with Boston Fire Commissioner Roderick Fraser, who grew up in East Millinocket, Maine and attended the Maine Maritime Academy. During Fraser's service in the Navy, he commanded the USS Underwood, which was built at Bath Iron Works.

Davis Family Foundation Awards Millinocket Historical Society $25,000
As another summer comes to a close, the volunteers of the Millinocket Historical Society noticed that there was a bit more to be thankful for just after the last yard sale of the season. On Thursday September 20th the Millinocket Historical Society received another grant from the Davis Family Foundation for $25,000.

Senator Collins donated a Calvin Cline designer outfit to St. Martin's Thrift Store Milliknocket. Sen. Collins also expressed appreciation for the store's well known financial support of the non-denominational and ecumenical St. Martin's Food Pantry and Emergency Fuel Fund. She also said she was amazed by how extensive the store's offerings are throughout its two floor, nine-room facility.
