MILLINOCKET -- KVHC Relay For Life Team Leader, Eliza Currie, reports that KVHC's team was recognized for raising the most money at the first annual Katahdin Area Relay For Life walk held on Friday and Saturday, June 20-21, 2008 at Stearns High School in Millinocket. KVHC's team also ensured that at least two people were on the track at all times, and many times the entire team was walking during the middle of the night.

The team had set a personal fundraising goal of $2,000. KVHC's team raised $2,366! The team will receive a plaque with KVHC's team name on it. This plaque will then be passed on to next year's highest fundraiser with their name added and so on for the years to come.

Team members were told that most first-year Relay For Life events average $10,000 total in fundraising money. The Millinocket Relay fundraisers exceeded this by raising a total of $18,000! There were 194 people officially registered prior to the event, but there were several hundred more people there for the opening ceremony and lumarinary ceremony.

Eliza reports on behalf of KVHC's team, "We were all very excited to be there for this event and are already making plans for next year. We thank everyone for all their help to make this event so successful."
