WASHINGTON D.C. -- U.S. Senators Olympia J. Snowe and Susan Collins (R-Maine) today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded $488,130 to the Town of Millinocket for construction at Millinocket Municipal Airport. The grant will support the construction of runway end safety areas and diminish any obstructions to the runway visibility zone.

"Airport infrastructure is a critical part of our transportation system," Senators Snowe and Collins said in a joint statement. "This grant from the Department of Transportation will allow Millinocket Municipal Airport to make much-needed improvements to its facilities and thereby increase the operational safety of its services."

The Department of Transportation (DOT) aims to improve safety, increase mobility in support of the nation's economy, protect human and natural environment, achieve organizational excellence, and support the national security strategy.
