Official Appearance Schedule of Congressman Michaud

Saturday, August 7, 2010

28th Annual Wilton Blueberry Festival Parade (Western Maine Expo on Weld Road, finishing at Wilson Lake)

Sunday, August 8, 2010

No public events are currently scheduled

Monday, August 9, 2010

Michaud will tour a number transportation projects with Maine Transportation Commissioner David Cole. Times are approximate.

1:00 PM: Visit Route 1A Construction Project in Ellsworth - Michaud will join Maine Department of Transportation (MDOT) officials at the project field office. Route 1A in Ellsworth is the last of more than $30 million in transportation infrastructure improvements stretching from Bangor to Bar Harbor. When this project is complete, it brings this critical economic corridor up to modern highway standards and will make travel to this area safer and smoother for commuters and tourists. Project completion is expected by summer 2011.

Visit Downtown Ellsworth and City Hall - Michaud will meet with City Manager Michelle Beal and other city officials and local residents to receive an update on the city's wastewater treatment plant and other projects and interests.

2:15 PM: Visit "Acadia Gateway" (Trenton Intermodal Center) - Michaud will meet with Resident Engineer Jeff Coffin, (and contractors, if possible). MDOT worked with Acadia National Park, Friends of Acadia, Downeast Transportation Inc., and the town of Trenton to develop the facility in Trenton, Maine. The facility will serve multiple functions:

  • a place for day-use visitors/commuters to leave cars and ride the Island Explorer system
  • offer visitor information about Acadia National Park and the surrounding region
  • provide visitor amenities -- restrooms, phones, commercial services
  • provide DTI with offices, a light bus-maintenance area, secure fleet storage, and a fueling location

2:50 PM: Drive through and inspect new intersection at "Head of Island" (completed project)

3:10 PM: Arrive at College of the Atlantic Entrance - Michaud will meet MDOT's Fred Michaud and citizen members of the Bar Harbor Route 3 Public Advisory Committee on the proposed full highway reconstruction of an approximately 4-mile segment of Route 3 from just beyond the Best Western to an in-town location.

6:30 PM: Michaud will speak at the Mount Desert Island Hospital Annual Meeting (Bar Harbor Club - 111 West Street - Bar Harbor)
