WASHINGTON, DC - On March 16th, Congressman Mike Michaud met with Penquis Valley High School students in his Washington, DC office. The students were in town participating in the Close Up Foundation's Washington High School Program. According to the Close Up Foundation, since 1971, the organization has provided the Washington civic education experience to almost 700,000 participants. Close Up programs seek to educate, inspire and empower students by providing them with the skills and experience they need to become active citizens in our democracy. Each year, Close Up schedules over one thousand meetings on Capitol Hill for participants to meet with their Members of Congress and staff. These meetings demonstrate the accessibility of democratic government while providing a forum for students to express their views on policy issues.
