Hi Tony,
I just want to set the record straight re: this article about school nurses. Obviously you don't know very much about public schools and their operating procedures. Here's a history lesson. Many years ago (probably 45+ years) there was a nurse who came to every school regularly, many times during the week. They were stationed at the local health department.
They administered immunizations, dental health, personal hygeine education, regularly monitored students who had diabetes, checked temperaturess, called parents when the child was not getting their needs met and many other 'nursing' responsibilites. Unfortunately, that all changed and now our dear secretaries, attendance clerks, teachers, principals, etc are required to do such duties. Do we have the proper training? I dare say not.
For you to write that all they do is administer ADHD meds is so not the whole picture. I encourage to rethink your stand on this issue and please inform the public so that other readers won't take on your opinions and ideas since they don't fit the bill very well.
And by the way I am a guidance counselor at two schools and have first hand experience with the traveling and the time it takes to counsel which I don't have enough of.
Blessings to you and my prayers for you are that you will reconsider.
