Let's have a good wallow in woolly thinking... Joe Scarborough began his morning show today lamenting the attempt by both parties to claim credit for the intelligence that resulted in the execution of OBL.
Do we really have to explain the meaning of "Necessary and Sufficient Condition"? This is high school stuff.
The necessary condition for finding OBL was determining the name of OBL's courier, which was revealed after waterboarding Khalid Sheik Mohammed, Faraj al Libi, and top al Qaeda operative, Hassan Ghul.
The sufficient condition for locating OBL was a telephone call several years later made to this courier (nom de guerre abu Ahmed al Kuwaiti) by an operative who was under telephone surveillance by the CIA. This enabled the CIA to track down al Kuwaiti (real name: Sheikh Abu Ahmed) and follow him to the compound in Abbattoban.
The point is, the Obama administration is claiming credit for an operation that would not have been possible except for the 'enhanced interrogation techniques' they condemned during the Presidential campaign and attempted to criminalize after they assumed office.
